Volunteers Make a Difference Why Volunteer? Sexual assault is a crime that often leaves its victims feeling confused, embarrassed, angry, guilty, helpless and frightened. The emotional impact of sexual assault does not disappear. Talking about feelings with someone who cares and understands the impact of rape can help. No one should to face it alone. You Can Help By: Being there to support someone in crisis. Listening and offering help to someon in crisis. Educating the public on the subject of sexual assault.
What's In It For Me? Volunteerism is a way to act on an issue that is important to you. You will learn strong communication and active listening skills. You can feel satisfaction knowing that you can help a person through a difficult time. You can battle wrong by defending what's right. You can fulfill community service hours.
Volunteer hours are flexible and can be worked around your schedule. About the Volunteer Program
Since its beginnings, the Riverside Area Rape Crisis Center has relied heavily on volunteers to accomplish its mission. Without volunteers, RARCC could not exist. Volunteer Opportunities ADVOCATE Advocate volunteers provide in-person crisis intervention, information and referrals to victims of sexual assault, family members and friends. These services are provided at local hospitals, police stations, court, etc. Advocate volunteers must complete an eight week training (provided by RARCC), be at least 21 years of age, demonstrate maturity, possess a valid California drivers license, adequate transportation and automobile insurance coverage. Crisis Line (Hotline) Crisis Line volunteers provide crisis intervention, information and referrals to victims of sexual assault, family members and friends by telephone. Crisis Line volunteers must complete an eight week training (provided by RARCC), be at least 18 years of age and demonstrate maturity. Speakers Bureau Speakers Bureau volunteers provide education to the community regarding the issue of sexual assault and possible preventative measures. This service is provided to various groups, schools and organizations. Speakers Bureau volunteers must a minimum of 21 years of age, must complete a Speakers Bureau training class in addition to the eight week crisis training. Training is provided by RARCC.
